The Jungle Ultra
Objective
Film a 230km self-sufficient ultramarathon spanning five stages over five days. Set deep in the heart of Peru’s Manu National Park, this project captures the grueling intensity of the Beyond the Ultimate, Jungle Ultra
Runners faced treacherous jungle terrain, navigating dense rainforests, muddy river crossings, and sweltering humidity while confronting wildlife like bullet ants, anacondas, and piranhas.
Challenges
Our film crew endured the same brutal conditions and the jungle tested us at every step.
Constant humidity and sudden downpours made keeping our equipment dry a daily struggle, and attempting to change lenses only caused them to fog instantly, forcing us to shoot the entire film on a single lens.
River crossings were high-risk, with local tribe members guiding us across on floating logs, putting both our gear and safety on the line.
On land, we had to keep moving to avoid relentless mosquitoes, while the slick jungle floor proved unforgiving, even managing to capture my own fall on camera.
